The full-size Kahr TP45 is a large, striker-fired, single-stack .45 ACP 7+1 semi-automatic from Kahr Arms of Greeley, Pennsylvania. The TP stands for two-tone polygonal rifling. But that’s somewhat happenstance as the real differentiator is that this premium DAO gun is Kahr’s largest .45 ACP. Other Kahr .45s include the standard polymer 6+1 P45, compact 5+1 CM45, etc.
So back to the TP45. Inside is a 4.04” long polygonal rifled barrel with a 1 to 16.38” right-hand twist. The standard TP45 has a stainless-steel slide and a matte black polymer frame, which makes the two-tone color scheme.
The slide lacks front serrations. Kahr engraves the slide markings onto the slide instead of painting them as it does on its more affordable models, and the black polymer frame lacks under-muzzle Picatinny rail. The TP45 ships new with three 7-round magazines.
The TP4 features dovetailed front and rear sights. There are two sight options. One is a set of low-profile Tritium white 3-dot sights that work night or day. The other is a white dot front sight paired to a white bar rear sight.
The TP45 is thin and, thanks to its polymer frame, very light for its size. It’s powerful yet still retains a low-felt recoil, and it’s comfortable. The way the seven chiseled rear serrations per side align with the grip below is a nice touch. The big Kahr also has a Browning-style recoil lug and a passive striker block.
The matte-finished 416 stainless steel slide is 1.01” wide. Height is 5.25” while overall length is 6.57". The TP45 is very light, weighing only 20.8 ounces unloaded while an empty 7-round magazine adds another 2.4 ounces.
The slide stop lever and the circular magazine release are on the gun’s left side. The standout design element is the nearly figure-8 trigger housing around the forward tilted crescent trigger. The housing has two indents above the trigger into the frame and a slight indent in the bottom of the trigger guard.
The gun’s safety comes from its double-action only (DAO) trigger and its firing pin safety. There’s no thumb safety, which contributes to the gun’s slimness.
The flattened pyramid texturing on the frontstrap and backstrap are molded directly onto the grip. The two grip sides are textured with the encircled K (for Kahr) logo in the middle and are also molded directly onto the grip.
The Kahr TP45 semi-autos are built in Worchester, Massachusetts and thus Made in USA.
