Gunbroker.com uses the SSL certificate issued by GeoTrust. A very small number of users may get error messages trying to access secure sections of our web site. These sections are mostly Credit Card transaction web pages and we encrypt these web pages for the protection of our users.
Below is an explanation from a GeoTrust representative about the compatibility of their certificate and why it may not work with WebTV users:
Our web server certificates are compatible with Microsoft Internet Explorer® 5.01 and higher and Netscape/AOL Web browsers version 4.51 and higher, comprising an estimated 98% or more of all Web browsers in use on the Internet. Our certs also work with Mozilla and the MS IE 5.00 version contained in the Windows 2000 operating system distributions.
Our certs also work in Konquerer and Opera 5 - but not in Opera 6 because our roots were not installed in that version; however, our root IS installed in Opera 7.
Our certs work in the AOL browsers from AOL 6 upwards, but not in AOL 3, 4 or 5.
If your users have different browsers, then you will get various error warnings indicating the issuer of the certificate cannot be found or trusted.
Some Internet Service Providers post a clear message on their site, advising their costumers to upgrade to the newer Explorer or Netscape , for improved security and performance.
Regarding Web TV -
Unfortunately our certs will not work with the current versions of WebTV since our Root Certificate is not contained in the WebTV clients. We have been working with Microsoft, and our Root will be installed in their next release of WebTV. End users will need to upgrade to this new WebTV release in order to use our certs for SSL.
