The AR lower is the foundation of AR-platform rifles and pistols. It is the serialized part and is considered a firearm by law. It cannot function on its own, but it houses critical components, including the fire control group, magazine well, buffer system, and pistol grip. Once connected to the upper via two takedown pins, a complete lower becomes a functioning firearm.
